Laputa Celebrates 200 Weeks on Oricon

The clasic Miyazaki film, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, recently celebrated its 200th week on Japan’s Oricon, the Top 300 list of best selling items in Japan, making it the second DVD to achieve the milestone. The first is another Miyazaki film, My Neighbor Totoro, which is celebrating its 242nd week on the list. (Thanks, Ghibli World.)

Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles Hits Theaters October 20

Spirit of Zeon

Spirit of Zeon reports Gamewatch has the latest report and images of couple boss units (3rd Pegasus class ship and Proto Gundam). The game includes 4 stage (Jaburo, Newyark, Solomon, A Baoas Qua) where players fight against Earth Federation Force az Zaku pilots. The 44th Amusement Show (held during Sept 14-16) will have a playable version. The arcade game will come out in December.

Japanese Government Offering Manga Tours

he Japanese Department of Land Infrastucture and Trasportation will be offering a “manga tour” in Kyoto in 2008 and has encouraged foreign visitors to come. Fruits Basket Sets Booklist Record

By reaching #24 on the USA Today Booklist this week, Fruits Basket volume 14 became the highest ranked manga ever on the list. Naruto volume 9 held the previous record at #29, which Fruits Basket also tied last week.

Fullmetal Movie in Houston

Fullmetal Alchemist: The Conqueror of Shambala will have its Houston premiere at the Alamo West Oaks Theatre on September 6 at 8:00 p.m. Voice actors Vic Mignogna and Caitlin Glass and Director Mike McFarland will be in attendance. R.I.P. Hirotaka Suzuoki Few months ago, news about Hirotaka Suzuoki, voice actor of Bright Noa from Gundam, falling ill surfaced courtesy of his stage production site. Asahi.com confirms Hirotaka Suzuoki has passed away on Aug 6 due to lung cancer. He was 56 years old. Our condolences go to the Suzuoki’s family and friends.

Hands on: PS3 Gundam

One of the playable PlayStation 3 games on the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo show floor is Gundam: Mobile suit, a third-person giant robot sim from Namco Bandai. Featuring the unmistakable Gundam mobile suit designs, the demo seems intended to showcase the PS3's graphical muscle and give a sense of the type of mechanics the game will eventually bring to bear.

Anime Expo 2006

SEED Destiny Theme song hits #5

Oricon reports that Nami Tamaki's theme song for the first SEED Destiny Special Edition hit #5 on the weekly singles chart with 27,000 copies sold.

PS3 Gundam

Namco-Bandai snuck in a short video of its latest Gundam game, as part of Sony's short reel of video-only titles at E3. Entitled Mobile Suit Gundam, the game was also featured at last year's Sony conference, although this year the trailer was much longer.
